Former First Lady Barbara Bush has given her son, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush the green light to run for President in 2016.
She had previously stated that too many Bush family members had served in the White House, but flipped that statement Friday morning saying “I’ve changed my mind.”
Mrs. Bush made the remark via Skype Friday morning during a dinner in Bonita Spring, Fla. To an audience of about 350 supporters of her family literacy foundation, Bloomberg News reported Friday.
Her son Jeb stood on the stage as his mother made the statement, to which he replied, “Hey mom, can I get that in writing by the way?”
Mr. Bush has been actively exploring a bid for the GOP’s 2016 nomination, tapping his vast network of Wall Street donors for campaign money and political action groups linked to the Bush family appear to be far outpacing those linked to other possible GOP candidates.
Earlier this week Mr. Bush, the son of President George H.W. Bush and brother of President George W. Bush, said he is “totally focused” on exploring a presidential run, Time reported.
