Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said she saw the January State of the Union speech through somewhat fuzzy eyes — due to the alcohol she downed just minutes before the event.
Justice Ginsburg recalled the speech, speaking to the fact that many viewers of the hourlong presidential address noticed she seemed asleep for a good portion of it.
“The audience for the most part is awake, because they’re bobbing up and down, and we sit there, stone-faced, sober judges,” she said during a talk at George Washington University, The Blaze reported. “But we’re not — at least I wasn’t — 100 percent sober.”
She said that she had some wine before the speech, and its effects were still with her during President Obama’s presentation.
“Because before we went to the State of the Union, Justice Kennedy brought in … it was an Opus something or other, very fine California wine, and I vowed this year, just sparkling water, stay away from the wine, but in the end, the dinner was so delicious, it needed wine,” Ms. Ginsburg said, The Hill reported.
