The “Right to Rise” political action committee formed last month by former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush announced Friday that it has doled out its “first round” of contributions to conservatives running in 2016 totaling nearly $123,000.
The announcement serves as a marker early in the year for potential 2016 hopefuls to keep an eye on; unlike some other possible candidates, Mr. Bush’s group, announced Jan. 6, was set up too late to turn in any end-of-year totals for 2014.
The group said it has given $10,000 apiece to state Republican parties in the early presidential states of Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Nevada, and Florida, following in the footsteps of other leadership PACS of possible 2016 contenders that gave to candidates and committees in early presidential states last year.
“I’m proud to support great conservative candidates who are committed to renewing America’s promise by expanding opportunity and igniting upward mobility in our country,” Mr. Bush said in a statement. “In the coming months, our PAC will continue to support conservative candidates and conservative policies that will ensure all Americans have the right to rise.”
Bloomberg first reported on the announcement earlier Friday.
The PAC also gave $5,200 apiece to GOP Sens. Charles Grassley of Iowa, Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire, Rob Portman of Ohio, Richard Burr of North Carolina, and Tim Scott of South Carolina.
Other $5,200 contributions went to GOP Reps. David Young of Iowa, Frank Guinta of New Hampshire, Barbara Comstock of Virginia, Trey Gowdy of South Carolina, Joe Heck of Nevada, Mia Love of Utah, Martha McSally of Arizona, and Elise Stefanik and Lee Zeldin of New York.
