The White House on Wednesday paid tribute to the nation’s most famous fake newsman but wouldn’t weigh in on a very real news scandal.
White House press secretary Josh Earnest said he will miss “Daily Show” host Jon Stewart, who announced recently he’ll step down later this year.
“I would certainly describe myself as a fan and an occasional victim. But we will certainly be sad to see him go,” Mr. Earnest told reporters. “He brought a unique perspective to comedy and even to informing the public about what’s going on in their country. … This is probably not the last we’ve heard of Jon Stewart.”
Moments later, Mr. Earnest said virtually nothing about NBC News anchor Brian Williams, who has been suspended for six months without pay after apparently lying about his experiences covering the Iraq war.
“As for Mr. Williams, I know this is something NBC News has been talking about quite a bit. I don’t think that’s something I’m going to wade into from here,” he said.
