LONDON — Angelina Jolie has opened an academic center billed as Britain’s first to focus on women, peace and security.
The Hollywood actress hopes the center at the London School of Economics will help boost the global campaign for women’s rights. She said Tuesday “there is no stable future for a world in which crimes committed against women go unpunished.”
The university says the center will study the participation of women in conflict and on ending impunity for rape and sexual violence in war.
Jolie, a U.N. special envoy, co-founded a campaign on preventing sexual violence with former British Foreign Secretary William Hague in 2012.
