Washington Wizards point guard John Wall will be replaced by Houston Rockets point guard Patrick Beverley in the NBA Skills Challenge at all-star weekend, the league announced Tuesday.
Wall has been dealing with a trio of ailments, including a sprained ankle, migraine headaches and a cold.
“Just wanted to just rest,” Wall said.
Wall went on to say he told his representatives that he was “thinking about” participating in the skills challenge. They took that as confirmation he was in.
He is slated to start for the Eastern Conference at Sunday’s All-Star game at Madison Square Garden. It is the second consecutive season Wall has been named an all-star. He said he did not consider pulling out of the All-Star game.
In his fifth season, Wall is having his best year. His field-goal percentage is up and he leads the league in assists.
