Boston-area residents weary of the record snowfall say the piles are so deep, they don’t even recognize their neighborhoods.
“I can’t believe this is my neighborhood,” Amy McHugh, of Weymouth, told a local news station. “It’s wild. I keep telling the kids, ’You’re going to be telling your kids about this.’ It’s unimaginable.”
The snowfall in the region is record-setting.
“It’s only been 14 days, and we’ve gotten 70 to 80 inches of snow around the commonwealth,” Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker said, CNN reported. “This is pretty much unprecedented.”
Weather forecasters say the 72-inch snowfall recorded over the past 30 days is a new record. On average, the city gets 47 inches of snow per year, according to CNN.
Schools are closed, courts are shut down, flights are being diverted and now residents trying to shovel out are being told to go ahead and dump the snow in Boston Harbor — a practice usually frowned upon, CNN reported.
“It’s really depressing, you know? I’m tired of it,” Boston University freshman Cameron Barkan told CNN. “I usually like snow, but this is just a little much.”
