Stephen Paea sustained a grade-two toe sprain in Monday’s 19-16 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, which coach Jay Gruden said will keep the Washington Redskins’ defensive end out at least one to two games.

Paea played just 10 snaps on Monday’s before leaving the game. Paea will miss Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears, with whom he played for four seasons before signing with the Redskins in March.

Inside linebacker Will Compton sprained a shoulder against the Cowboys, but Gruden seemed optimistic that Compton will not miss any playing time.

“Will Compton is one of those guys that if he’s on the injury report, I wouldn’t look too far into it because he’s probably going to fight through it,” Gruden said on Tuesday. “He’s a tough guy and I think it’s something he can deal with, but we’ll see. Hopefully it will subside a little bit.”

Compton, running back Chris Thompson and defensive end Jason Hatcher all underwent MRI exams. Thompson also sprained a shoulder. Hatcher sprained an ankle and sustained a stinger.

Gruden also said he expects tight end Derek Carrier to increase his reps in practice this week. Carrier was inactive because a high left ankle sprain and a sprained Achilles’ tendon. Inside linebacker Keenan Robinson was active for the first time in three weeks, but he did not play.

Robinson has been sidelined by a variety of unspecified shoulder injuries.

“Keenan really stuck it out for us to dress in the first place, he’s still quite not 100 percent,” Gruden said. “With another week of recovery, Keenan could get more action next week.”

Strong safety Jeron Johnson has a hamstring injury and is day to day, Gruden said.
