Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump says he doesn’t care about critics of his new proposal to temporarily ban Muslims from coming into the country until the country’s representatives can “figure out what is going on.”
When it was pointed out Tuesday on CNN’s “New Day” that just about all of his fellow 2016 GOP presidential candidates and Republican party leaders are rejecting the notion, Mr. Trump said: “I don’t care about them.”
“We have people out there that want to do great destruction to our country - whether it’s 25 percent or 10 percent or 5 percent, it’s too much,” he said. “We have people out there that want…our buildings to come down. They want our cities to be crushed. They are living within our country, and many of them want to come from outside of our country.
“I am saying that until we figure this out, we should have a ban - it’s very simple,” he said. “It’s very simple.”
Mr. Trump said on ABC’s “Good Morning America” that U.S. citizens who are Muslim would be allowed to leave the country and come back.
“If a person is a Muslim, goes overseas and comes back, they can come back. They’re a citizen. That’s different,” Mr. Trump said. “But we have to figure things out.”
