A new poll challenges Donald J. Trump’s repeated assertion that Hispanic voters love him in the 2016 presidential race.

The MSNBC/ Telemundo/ Marist poll released Monday found that 67 percent of Latinos view Mr. Trump in a negative light, and 55 percent saying they have a “very negative” view of him - compared to 17 percent who see him favorably.

His net favorable rating is the lowest of any 2016 candidate in the survey.

The poll also showed that jobs and economy are the most important issues in determining the voters of Latino voters followed by education and immigration.

Mr. Trump has called for more border fencing and deporting illegal immigrants living in the country. He also has called for ending birthright citizenship.

Mr. Trump has maintained that Hispanics love him and has pointed to a survey out of Nevada earlier this year that showed him leading the field among Republican Hispanic voters.
