Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush says his parents are both doing well and that his father, former President George H.W. Bush, is “trying to figure out Donald Trump,” joking that it’s now the Bush patriarch’s “main goal in life.”
“They’re doing fine,” Mr. Bush, a 2016 GOP presidential candidate, said toward the end of a question-and-answer session at this week’s Republican Jewish Coalition presidential forum.
“My dad is 91, and he can’t walk anymore. He’s in a wheelchair, but he stopped watching the CSI series, shows — you know, all those shows,” Mr. Bush said. “He’s now watching Fox again, throwing shoes, trying to figure out Donald Trump. I think that’s his main goal in life.”
“It’s hard for a guy like that to understand the Trump phenomenon, but he’s doing well. My mother’s an angel, believe it or not,” he said. “Much as we give her grief … she’s just phenomenal.”
He added that she is “the best caregiver in the world for her love of her life.”
“They’ve been married almost 71 years,” Mr. Bush said.
