Officials in Brussels on Wednesday called off the Belgian capital’s traditional New Year’s Eve fireworks display, citing fears of a terror attack.
On Tuesday two suspects were arrested on suspicion of plotting such an attack in Brussels, targeting large crowds gathered for New Year’s Eve festivities.
“Together with the interior minister, we’ve decided to not have the celebrations on Thursday evening,” Brussels Mayor Yvan Mayeur told the state broadcaster RTBF, Reuters reported.
