ASHBURN — Washington Redskins inside linebacker Perry Riley is expected to have an MRI exam on his foot after sustaining a sprain in Thursday’s practice. According to coach Jay Gruden, Riley injured his foot while turning a corner, though he refrained from assessing the severity of the injury.
After practice, Riley simply said he felt fine.
Defensive end Chris Baker, tight end Derek Carrier, free safety Dashon Goldson, defensive end Jason Hatcher and wide receiver Andre Roberts did not practice. Baker was out with an illness, which Gruden said was “going around a little bit.” Last week, cornerback Bashaud Breeland and strong safety Jeron Johnson each missed a day of practice with an illness.
Carrier sustained a high ankle sprain and an Achilles’ sprain in Sunday’s 20-14 win against the New York Giants and did conditioning drills off to the side with Roberts, who has an unspecified knee injury. Hatcher had the day off, as he normally does once a week. Goldson was out with knee, hamstring and wrist injuries.
Linebacker Keenan Robinson (shoulder), cornerback Will Blackmon (shoulder/hip), running back Chris Thompson (shoulder), cornerback Quinton Dunbar (finger), cornerback Deshazor Everett (hamstring) and strong safety Trenton Robinson (hamstring) were all limited in practice.
Keenan Robinson has been inactive the last three games with a variety of shoulder issues. If Riley’s foot injury keeps him out of Monday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys, the Redskins could be short two inside linebackers.
“We’d like to see [Robinson] play,” Gruden said. “You just don’t know the extent of how much strength he has. He is continuing to improve it in the weight room and the training room. He had a [platelet-right plasma treatment] last week, so hopefully, that will give him some relief, but we’ll have to wait and see.”
