The White House will roll out the red carpet for new Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau with a State Dinner in his honor in March.

President Obama and the first lady Michelle Obama will host Mr. Trudeau and his wife, Sophie Grégoire-Trudeau, at the White House on March 10.

The White House said Monday that the visit “will be an opportunity for the United States and Canada to deepen their bilateral relationship, which is one of the closest and most extensive in the world and is based on a shared history, common values, and a vast and intricate network of cultural, familial, and commercial ties.”

White House press secretary Josh Earnest the two leaders will also discuss “energy and climate change, security, and the economy.”

Mr. Trudeau, 44, is the second-youngest prime minister in Canada’s history. The leader of the liberal party was sworn into office on Nov. 4.
