Mark Hamill, the actor who portrays Luke Skywalker in “Star Wars” skipped a recent promotional event for “The Force Awakens,” opting to visit sick children at a British hospital instead.
Mr. Hamill, 64, posted an image from his visit to his Twitter account Tuesday showing him getting a pretend checkup from a young boy named Oscar holding a toy stethoscope.
“Thanks for the check-up Oscar,” Mr. Hamill tweeted.
Meanwhile, other cast members from the latest “Star Wars” installment were taping an appearance on “The Graham Norton Show,” The Independent reported.
“Star Wars movies are meant to be a couple of hours of diversion from reality, and we need that. They are optimistic and hopeful stories. But in comparison to what we can do with [the hospital], last night [the premiere of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”] is very trivial,” Mr. Hamill told the newspaper.
The hospital’s staff thanked Mr. Hamill in a tweet: “Thanks so much for coming to visit our patients Mark - everyone absolutely loved it :)”
Mr. Hamill’s fans praised the move on social media.
“This made my eyes water this honestly is so sweet,” one fan tweeted.
