LANDOVER — Washington Redskins running back Chris Thompson is inactive against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday for the second consecutive week.
Thompson tore the labrum in his left shoulder two weeks ago and was a limited participant in practice all week.
Without Thompson on the field, veteran running back Pierre Thomas, who signed with the team last week, could see an increase in playing time as the third-down back now that he has had more time to get acclimated to the offense.
The Redskins’ other inactive players are inside linebacker Perry Riley (foot), wide receiver Andre Roberts (knee), strong safety Jeron Johnson (hamstring), quarterback Robert Griffin III, left guard Arie Kouandjio and tight end Je’Ron Hamm.
Redskins defensive end Jason Hatcher and inside linebacker Keenan Robinson are both active after being listed as questionable. Hatcher played 12 snaps last week, all on third down, despite a pinched nerve in his neck. Robinson, who has an undisclosed shoulder injury, has been active the last two games but has not played a defensive snap.
With Hamm inactive, the Redskins will incorporate Alex Smith, who signed earlier in the week, into their offense. Smith, an 11-year veteran, played for Redskins coach Jay Gruden with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2013.
Inactive for the Bills are quarterback Josh Johnson, cornerback Ron Brooks, outside linebackers Nigel Bradham and Max Valles, left tackle Seantrel Henderson, tight end Charles Clay and defensive end Lavar Edwards.
