Former President Jimmy Carter’s grandson Jeremy Carter has died at age 28, NPR has reported.

Mr. Carter, who recently said he is healthy after a recent brain cancer scare, announced the news at his weekly Sunday school class at his hometown Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains, Georgia, on Sunday morning.

NPR reported that Jeremy Carter felt unwell Saturday evening and was later found unresponsive. Attempts to revive him at home were unsuccessful.

Despite such circumstances, Mr. Carter, 91, continued teaching Sunday school as scheduled, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

“That’s the kind of Christian he is. Everything that happens in life, good or bad, he uses as a teaching experience,” the Journal Constitution reported one Maranatha member as saying.

The Journal Constitution reported that Mr. Carter “encouraged churchgoers to ’be filled with a sense of joy and thanksgiving,’ even in the face of sorrow.”
