A prominent progressive drew outrage Wednesday for blaming the San Bernardino County attack on Republicans, even though the shooting was still in progress and the identity of the assailants unknown.
Markos Moulitsas, founder of the left-wing Daily Kos, said Wednesday afternoon on Twitter that, “Yo GOP, kinda hard to talk about ’keeping people safe’ when your peeps are shooting up America.”
The outcry on social media from conservatives was immediate. “wow scumbag @markos already knows shooters are registered Republicans,” said @SooperMexican.
The website Twitchy compiled a list of social-media responses, including one from Ben Shapiro, head of the conservative website Truth Revolt, who told Mr. Moulitsas, “You are a moral cow pie.”
Undeterred, Mr. Moulitsas later tweeted, “At least 14 dead and 14 injured. But lucky for them, the GOP is offering up loads of thoughts and prayers!”
