Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump said Wednesday that climate change isn’t going to “kill us,” that he would not have attended the summit on the topic in Paris, and that he didn’t want to say aloud what people outside the United States really think of President Obama.

“We have a president that doesn’t know what he is doing,” Mr. Trump said on “Fox and Friends.” “And all he’s worried about is climate change. He thinks climate change is something that’s going to go kill us and it’s not going to kill us at all. It’s not going to kill us.”

Mr. Trump said he would not have attended the climate change summit in Paris and that he might have sent his vice president.

“But that might be too high a position, OK?” he said.

“China’s laughing at us because China doesn’t obey any of these rules,” he said. “And China’s going to sit down, agree to something where they don’t have to do anything, we have to do everything, and in 30 years, China will kick in, maybe.”

“But they’re not obeying any of the rules,” he continued. “They’re building coal plants all over China, which is fine, assuming it’s clean coal, they’re buying our coal — we’re not allowed to use coal anymore, essentially. We’re not allowed to use coal anymore.”

“China doesn’t obey by the rules. Iran doesn’t obey by the rules. Iran has already broken our agreement with them, and the ink isn’t even dry,” he said. “It’s a horrible situation. There is no respect for our leader. They think he is a total — I will not say it, because it’ll be all over the world, OK? But they think our leader is not a competent person.”
