Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said Wednesday that while 2016 GOP presidential rival Donald Trump’s proposal to temporarily bar Muslims from entering the country “resonates politically,” it ultimately hurts in the larger fight against the Islamic State terrorist group.
“He’s not a serious candidate,” Mr. Bush said on “Fox and Friends.” “His proposal to ban all Muslims resonates politically, but the simple fact is, it makes it harder for us to actually create a coalition to destroy ISIS, which should be the primary objective for the next president, [because] this president has done nothing in that regard.”
“And so pointing out the differences of philosophy, I think, is more than fair game,” Mr. Bush said.
At Tuesday’s GOP presidential debate in Nevada, Mr. Bush had called Mr. Trump a “chaos candidate” who would be a “chaos president.”
Asked Wednesday whether he likes Mr. Trump, Mr. Bush said: “It doesn’t really matter what I think about the guy. I just don’t think he’s ready to be president, and I pointed out why I am.”
