New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said Wednesday that “we’re already in World War III” as he reiterated his support for a no-fly zone over Syria.

Mr. Christie said the rules of engagement would be “very clear” and that a Russian plane would be shot down if it went into the zone after being warned.

“And the fact is that we need to have some clarity coming from the oval office, and not 16 pages of rules of engagement that a pilot has to flip through before they make a decision on what to do,” Mr. Christie said on “CBS This Morning.”

After Mr. Christie spoke of his support for a no-fly zone at Tuesday’s GOP presidential debate in Las Vegas, Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky said: “Well, I think if you’re in favor of World War III, you have your candidate.”

“The problem for folks like Senator Paul is they don’t realize we’re already in World War III,” Mr. Christie said Wednesday. “This is a new world war and one that won’t look like the last two. And this is one where radical Islamic jihadists every day are trying to kill Americans and disrupt and destroy our away of life.

“If he doesn’t understand that we’re already in that war, then it’s just another example of why he’s so unfit to be president of the United States,” Mr. Christie said.
