Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton leads Sen. Bernie Sanders by 9 points in Iowa in the race for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination, according to new polling out Monday.

Mrs. Clinton was at 48 percent in the Bloomberg Politics/Des Moines Register poll, followed by Mr. Sanders at 39 percent.

In an October survey that included Vice President Joseph R. Biden, Mrs. Clinton had a 5-point lead over Mr. Sanders, 42 percent to 37 percent.

In the new survey, former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley was at 4 percent.

Likely Democratic caucus-goers gave Mrs. Clinton the edge on questions of experience, who would make the best commander-in-chief, who has the best temperament to be president, and who would work most effectively with Congress.

Mr. Sanders, meanwhile, had the edge on who cares the most about people like you and who will fight hardest for the middle class.
