CHICAGO — Washington Redskins tight end Derek Carrier sustained an apparent right knee injury on the first play of the team’s second drive, with coach Jay Gruden saying afterward that Carrier would undergo further medical examination.
Carrier reached back to catch a ball thrown behind him on a crossing route with 2:37 left in the quarter when his right leg twisted as he was tackled by Bears inside linebacker Shea McClellin. Immediately ruled out, Carrier was wearing a large black brace that supported the knee in the locker room after the game.
The Redskins went back to using backup offensive tackles Tom Compton and Ty Nsekhe as their jumbo tight ends after Carrier’s injury. Je’Ron Hamm, the third tight end, was inactive.
“Whenever and wherever they want to use me, I’m here,” Carrier said. “I’m going to be ready and focused and well-prepared for whatever they want me to do.”
Cornerback Bashaud Breeland had to be helped off the field in the third quarter when free safety Kyshoen Jarrett drove his helmet into Breeland’s left leg while trying to tackle Bears running back Matt Forte, but he returned to the game at the start of the following drive. Wide receiver DeSean Jackson experienced soreness after cornerback Kyle Fuller landed on one of his legs at the conclusion of a 29-yard completion in the third quarter, and right tackle Morgan Moses was evaluated for a concussion at halftime and early in the third quarter but was cleared.
Cousins keeps passing streaks alive

Quarterback Kirk Cousins completed a touchdown pass for the 13th consecutive game — each game this season — when he found tight end Jordan Reed in the end zone in the third quarter. That streak is the third-longest in team history, with only the New England Patriots’ Tom Brady, the Jacksonville Jaguars’ Blake Bortles and the Seattle Seahawks’ Russell Wilson the only other players to enter Sunday having also thrown a touchdown pass in every game this season.
Cousins, who threw for 300 yards, became the Redskins’ fourth quarterback to throw for 300 or more yards in a game four times in one season, joining Sonny Jurgensen, Jay Schroeder and Mark Rypien. … Wide receiver Andre Roberts, inside linebacker Perry Riley, running back Chris Thompson and strong safety Jeron Johnson were all inactive because of injuries, while Hamm, quarterback Robert Griffin III and left guard Arie Kouandjio were also scratched. … Running back Pierre Thomas, signed on Friday, had a 12-yard reception in the second quarter. … The Redskins have now won their last six games against the Bears, their longest winning streak against any opponent, and have only lost once in Chicago since 1987, a stretch of eight games.
