Chicago may be the target of an ISIS terror plot, according to reports out of Geneva.
Federal law enforcement officials in Chicago said Friday that they are aware of reports overseas that Chicago is among several North American cities named by Islamic State supporters as targets of future attacks, ABC reported.
Three Canadian cities, including Toronto, and Geneva, the second largest city in Switzerland, are all potential targets.
Officials say the threat level in Geneva is more specific, but Chicago law enforcement will remain on high alert.
European law enforcement are searching for four men as the terror threat level in Geneva was raised.
According to police reports out of Geneva, U.S. intelligence agents said the men were overheard specifically discussion Chicago, Toronto and Geneva, ABC reported.
Chicago police are taking no extreme measures, yet.
“We are in contact with our federal law enforcement partners, as we always are, and we are not aware of any credible or specific threats to Chicago. Residents should always remain vigilant, and you see something, say something,” Adam Collins, a spokesman for Mayor Emanuel, said Friday, CBS reported.
Past terror plots targeting Chicago have been thwarted, including an aborted attack on the Willis Tower; explosive copier cartridges destined for Chicago intercepted in Yemen; and the underwear bomber who flew to Detroit because airfare to Chicago was too expensive, according to CBS.
