NEWARK, Del. (AP) — A student gun rights club at the University of Delaware has purchased nearly $500 worth of ammunition with money allocated by the school.
The Students for the Second Amendment Club President Tyler Yzaguirre says the money was obtained through the university’s Allocation Board and approved last week.
Yzaguirre and club members bought the ammunition Thursday. Yzaguirre says teaching students responsible firearm ownership is written in their club’s constitution and that buying ammunition is a component of that.
He says firearms used by the club are purchased by the members individually.
In a statement, university spokeswoman Andrea Boyle Tippett says the group followed the proper procedure for funding and was ultimately approved by the board. The university doesn’t allow the possession, storage or use of firearms on campus.
