Democrats, heartbroken over the loss of one of their greatest late-night champions, sent an email Friday asking supporters to sign a thank you card for Jon Stewart and then donate money to the party.

The email from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee lamented the final episode of Mr. Stewart’s left-leaning satirical TV show, “The Daily Show,” or more specifically, the fact that it fell on the same night as the highly anticipated GOP debate.

“For years we’ve depended on Jon Stewart to find the humor amid the madness. So last night’s absurd Republican debate only adds to the sting of Jon’s departure from the Daily Show,” the email reads.

“Sure we want to beg him to do one more show and give his take on Trump vs. the world — but what we probably ought to do instead is thank him for all the laughs he’s given us over the past 16 years.”

The email includes a link to sign a “thank you card” for Mr. Stewart, hosted on the Democrat’s No. 1 fundraising Web platform ActBLue.

The card has garnered already over 40,000 signatures.

Those who sign the card are then taken to a page where they can donate to the party, with a minimum donation option of $15, and receive a “Yes. I Voted Obama” sticker.
