The Washington Nationals recalled right-handed reliever Blake Treinen on Thursday and sent fellow right-handed reliever Aaron Barrett to Triple-A Syracuse.

Treinen was sent to the minors on July 21 after a bumpy season had pushed his ERA to 4.39. In particular, Treinen had no solution against left-handed batters, who hit .346 against him. In five appearances with Syracuse, Treinen did not allow a run in 12 innings. He struck out 14, allowed six hits and walked one.

Barrett is viewed as a right-handed specialist out of the Nationals’ bullpen. But, his ERA rose to 4.60 after a poor outing Wednesday night when he allowed three earned runs and four hits in just 1/3 of an inning. The Arizona Diamondbacks went on to beat the struggling Nationals, 11-4.
