Camp Shelby in southern Mississippi is on high alert after shots were fired again on Wednesday morning.
National Guard officials say shots were fired for a second consecutive day at the Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center but no injuries have been reported, The Associated Press reported.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation confirmed Wednesday afternoon that a white male, called a person of interest in relation to the shootings at Camp Shelby, was taken into custody, multiple news reports said.
Lt. Col. Christian Patterson told the AP that soldiers reported hearing shots fired into the air in the same area where soldiers reported gunfire shot from a pickup truck near troops standing guard Tuesday.
No service members were injured in either incident and all personnel are accounted for.
Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant said in a statement that he encouraged military personnel across the state to “take appropriate steps to defend themselves as necessary,” USA Today reported.
“This is one of the reasons I recently signed an executive order directing certain National Guard personnel to be armed,” he added.
Authorities questioned two men in connection with Tuesday’s shooting, but both men were later released without being charged, according to the Perry County Sheriff’s Office, USA Today reported.
