OPINION:
Contrary to popular belief, the filibustering of the Repubicans’ initial attempt to stop federal funding to Planned Parenthood is no loss at all (“GOP fails in first bid to cut off Planned Parenthood funding,” Web, Aug. 3). Why must everything be about winning the battle? It’s the war that matters. Those Republicans and Democrats who ’voted their conscience’ drew the proverbial line in the sand, saying that some things are not for compromise. Kudos to them all. It’s a life-and-death issue and now the ledgers have been marked. The supporters of the Frankenstein process are now well-known.
What bothers me with the very process of voting is the failure of the Republican Party to follow through on its promises with the other 300-plus bills that the party members proclaimed were left sitting on Sen. Harry Reid’s desk for four years. Every one of these bills should be brought to a vote before any other bill (and I mean every other bill) is presented. The ’yay’s and ’nay’s need to be public and every veto needs to be painted on billboards.
The majority leaders of the House and Senate need to get off their entitled backsides and do the job they are handsomely paid to do.
