Stephen Strasburg nearing return from disabled list after latest rehab appearance

After an effective rehabilitation start with Triple-A Syracuse, Stephen Strasburg is on the verge of rejoining the Washington Nationals’ rotation.

Strasburg struck out 11 batters in 5 2/3 innings on Monday night for the Chiefs. He is likely to throw a bullpen session Wednesday and could return to the Nationals’ rotation this weekend.

“I feel good,” said Strasburg, who has a career-worst 5.16 ERA this season. “Stuff’s there, so, it’s just trying to keep doing the same things.”

Strasburg has not pitched in the major leagues since July 3 because of a strained left oblique. He’s thrown just 61 big-league innings this season because of neck tightness and the oblique, each requiring separate stints on the 15-day disabled list.

“I don’t think anybody’s going to be happy with it,” Strasburg said, referring to his injuries. “You’ve just got to try to look at the positives. I think I’ve grown a lot from it, and I’m going to continue to do that.”
