The manager of the Virginia news station rocked by the on-air shooting deaths of two of its journalists is upping security for field reporters.
Days after reporter Allison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward were fatally shot by a former co-worker on live television, WDBJ’s general manager Jeff Marks said the network will be implementing security and safety changes to its live news coverage, Buzzfeed reported.
“The plan going forward is to look at each live opportunity separately and make the proper decisions,” Mr. Marks told CNN Monday.
The manager stopped short of explaining what measures would be taken, “because there are crazy people out there and I think it’s best if we keep our plans to ourselves.”
Mr. Marks said he believed the discussion about tighter security is going on in every newsroom in the country, Buzzfeed reported.
He grew tearful as he spoke about how talented Ms. Parker and Mr. Ward were.
“If you had 1,000 job candidates in front of you and you had to pick two,” Mr. Marks said. “Those were the two you would pick out.”
