Donald Trump will be the 2016 Republican presidential nominee so talk of a potential third party run is essentially moot, an adviser to Mr. Trump said Monday.

“He has led in every single poll that’s out there. He will be the Republican nominee,” Michael Cohen, executive vice president of the Trump Organization and special counsel to Mr. Trump, said on CNN’s “New Day.”

So, Mr. Cohen said, there’s “no point” in talking about potentially ruling out a third party run — which Mr. Trump has yet to do.

“All he’s asking for, and all he’s ever talked about, is if they treat him fairly, which they are, and he’s talked about that over the course of the past weekend. If they treat him fairly, he will rule [it] out,” Mr. Cohen said.

If Mr. Trump fails to win the Republican nomination and does choose to run as a third party candidate, it could split the GOP vote and boost the eventual Democratic nominee.

“If in fact they treat him fairly, he has no intention [of] doing anything to damage the Republican party,” Mr. Cohen said.
