David Amerson became the latest Washington Redskins cornerback to leave practice with an injury when he hurt his left shoulder in a collision with wide receiver DeSean Jackson during a one-on-one drill in practice on Monday.
According to multiple reports, Amerson initially tried to rejoin the practice, but was held out by the team’s medical staff. A team spokesman said that Amerson will undergo further examination on the shoulder.
Bashaud Breeland, expected to fill a role as the Redskins’ top nickel corner, sprained the MCL in his left knee on Friday and will miss at least a month. Rookie Tevin Mitchel, who was tabbed by coach Jay Gruden as one of the players who could earn a bigger role during training camp filling in for Breeland, may miss the entire season after tearing the labrum in one of his shoulders on Saturday.
Mitchel, a sixth-round pick out of Arkansas, appeared to injure his right shoulder, but Gruden said he believed Mitchel injured his left shoulder.
Their issues come as DeAngelo Hall, who figures to reclaim his starting role, is still working his way back from a torn left Achilles tendon.
Strong safety Akeem Davis injured his left thumb in practice on Monday, while Gruden said rookie running back Matt Jones is recovering from an unspecified knee injury and left tackle Willie Smith is still day-to-day with a strained right Achilles tendon.
