Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said Wednesday that 2016 GOP rival and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush is “failing” in part because of his brother, former President George W. Bush.
“Well, Jeb is failing, and part of the reason he’s failing is because of his brother,” Mr. Trump said on radio host Laura Ingraham’s show. “His brother went in and attacked the wrong people. He broke up Iraq and destabilized the Middle East, and as you know ’cause you know very well, I’ve been against that war and I’m a very militaristic person. I’m going to make our military so strong, and I’m going to the care of our vets so good.”
“But you got to attack the right target, and ideally if you’re strong enough, you don’t have to attack anybody ’cause nobody’s [going to] mess with you. That’s where I want to be,” Mr. Trump said. “But, you know, the brother destabilized the Middle East. The brother has been, you know, I’m not a big fan.”
Mr. Trump had been asked about a Washington Post report that the 43rd president is scheduled to headline a fundraiser for the former governor and 2016 presidential hopeful on Sept. 10 in New York City.
Mr. Trump said the former president is going to have to help his brother because “Jeb is a very low-energy person.”
“I don’t care how much money they raise,” Mr. Trump said. “He’s not going to set the country right again. He’s just not going to do it.”
