Former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson said Sunday that he is backing Hillary Rodham Clinton for president.

Mr. Richardson, who supported Barack Obama over Mrs. Clinton in the 2008 Democratic primary race, told ABC News that he and Mrs. Clinton have “patched up” past disagreements.

“I have spoken to the president and Secretary Clinton, and we have patched up our disagreement from the 2008 election,” he said. “I am pleased to announce I wholeheartedly support Secretary Clinton’s candidacy for the presidency. Her leadership on issues like foreign policy, immigration, climate change and economic populism are important to the future of the country.”

Before becoming governor of New Mexico, Mr. Richardson served as energy secretary during the Clinton administration and as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.

He mounted his own unsuccessful presidential bid in 2008.
