Conservative TV and radio host Glenn Beck said Saturday he doesn’t think GOP front-runner Donald Trump is a true conservative.
Speaking on NPR’s “Weekend Edition Saturday,” Mr. Beck argued that Mr. Trump’s rhetoric often contradicts core conservative values.
“I haven’t hear him talk about the Constitution or small government,” Mr. Beck said of the New York business mogul, The Hill reported.
“It’s hard to say you espouse conservative principles and small-government principles when you are saying that you think [the] Canadian health care system works and is wonderful,” Mr. Beck added.
Mr. Beck’s remarks come as Mr. Trump continues to lead the GOP field in the polls, resonating with voters who are exhausted with establishment politicians.
“He is not a politician,” Mr. Beck said. “He is saying the populist things right now.”
On Friday, Mr. Trump drew a crowd of over 20,000 to a campaign rally in Alabama.
His comments are the latest in a string of remarks the influential conservative pundit has made against Mr. Trump.
Mr. Beck called Mr. Trump a “son of a [expletive]” before panning his performance in the first GOP debate earlier this month.
“He is the most arrogant candidate next to the candidate called Barack Obama,” Mr. Beck said of Trump following the Aug. 6 event on Fox News. “I mean, there’s nobody I’ve seen more arrogant than him.”
Last month, Mr. Beck announced that his radio program would no longer cover Mr. Trump’s campaign.
“I’m sick of it, so we’re moving on,” said co-host Stu Burguiere on July 23. “I just can’t do another show about it.”
