Businessman and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said Thursday it’s “ridiculous” the way New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has been treated, calling the three-time Super Bowl MVP a “great guy” and “a great friend of mine.”

“I think it’s ridiculous the way they’ve treated him,” Mr. Trump said on Fox Business Network’s “Mornings with Maria.” “He’s a friend of mine, he’s a great friend of mine. He’s a great guy. I think it is terrible the way they’ve treated him.”

Mr. Brady is appealing his four-game suspension handed down by the NFL for his purported role in the “Deflategate” controversy in the AFC championship game earlier this year.

“This country has bigger problems,” Mr. Trump said.

Mr. Trump says he “always” takes Mr. Brady in fantasy football.

“I have taken him for years, and if you have done some friendly bets on Tom Brady, you’ve done very well,” Mr. Trump said.
