RICHMOND — DeAngelo Hall said Monday he’s hopeful that he’ll be able to play against the Detroit Lions on Thursday night in the Washington Redskins’ second preseason game.
Hall was attempting to tackle wide receiver Rashad Ross late in team drills on Sunday when he injured one of the toes on his left foot. He sat out of practice Monday morning and said he’s trying to reduce the swelling and regain mobility in the toe through treatment.
Coach Jay Gruden said Hall underwent x-rays on the toe, but that they showed no breaks.
Hall also strained his left groin early in training camp, and he’s recovering after tearing his left Achilles tendon twice in the past year.
“Like I was saying to somebody, this is probably the first training camp I’ve actually came in and wanted to work,” said Hall, in his 12th season and eighth with the Redskins. “A lot of times, I’m really just going through the motions and I don’t want to be out here, but yeah, I mean, we’ve got a new defense, new guys. You’ve got to try to learn those guys, learn the defense while coming back from an injury, so trying to make sure my body responds the way I want it to.”
Gruden did rule two wide receivers out for Thursday: DeSean Jackson, who sprained the AC joint in his right shoulder, and rookie Jamison Crowder, who is recovering from a strained hamstring.
