Conservative firebrand Donald Trump will have to take a break from his front-running presidential campaign to serve jury duty this week.
The real estate magnate announced at a New Hampshire press conference Friday that he would carry out his civic duty.
“I will be doing jury duty on Monday morning in New York City,” Mr. Trump said ahead of a rally in the early voting state, The Telegraph reported.
Mr. Trump had ignored five jury summonses since 2006, according to the New York Daily News. A judge fined the billionaire $250 for skipping out.
The Republican candidate announced that he would serve after photos emerged of former President George W. Bush showing up for jury duty in downtown Dallas.
Mr. Trump assured his fans that he would keep his weekend plans to attend the Iowa State Fair, a traditional stomping ground for presidential contenders seeking support in the first-in-the-nation nominating contest.
On Saturday, he offered free rides for children in his personal helicopter at the fair. Officials at the fair said Mr. Trump would not be allowed to give children rides from within fairgrounds, so a parking lot near the fair served as a helipad.
