Hillary Clinton joked Saturday about the investigation into her use of a private email server during her time as secretary of state and dismissed the ordeal as just “politics.”
Speaking to about 2,000 people at the Iowa Democratic Wing Ding in Clear Lake, Iowa, Mrs. Clinton joked about accusations that she had her private email server professionally cleared before turning it over to the Justice Department.
“You may have seen that I recently launched a Snapchat account,” Mrs. Clinton said, Business Insider reported. “I love it. It love it. Those messages disappear all by themselves.”
The Justice Department is investigating the handling of classified information on Mrs. Clinton’s email server. The U.S. intelligence community has said the private account contained at least two emails that should have been labeled top-secret.
Reflecting on Republican attacks against the Democratic presidential front-runner over her handing of the terrorist siege in Benghazi Libya, in 2012, Mrs. Clinton said the email investigation is all about politics.
“You know what, it’s not about emails or servers either — it’s about politics,” Mrs. Clinton said, Business Insider reported. “I will do my part to provide transparency to Americans. That’s why I’m insisting 55,000 pages of my emails be published as soon as possible. I didn’t offer to answer questions for months before Congress. I just provided my server to the Justice Department. But here’s what I won’t do. I won’t get down in the mud with them. I won’t play politics with national security or dishonor the memory of those who we lost.
“I won’t pretend that this is anything other than what it is: the same old partisans games we’ve seen so many times before,” Mrs. Clinton said. “So I don’t care how many super PACs and Republicans pile on. I’ve been fighting for families and underdogs my entire life, and I’m not going to start now.”
