Familiar face to greet Johnny Manziel on Thursday when Redskins visit Browns

Cleveland Browns backup quarterback Johnny Manziel wasn’t so friendly to the Washington Redskins when the two teams met during the preseason last year, flipping the bird from the sidelines.

This year, the competition might have a more pleasant spirit to it, at least for Manziel and Redskins cornerback Deshazor Everett. Everett played at Texas A&M from 2011 through 2014, including during Johnny Manziel’s 2012 Heisman Trophy season, and is looking forward to lining up against his former teammate when the Browns and Redskins meet in Cleveland on Thursday.

“Just like at A&M,” Everett said. “Going out there and competing against each other, you know, I look across there, he’ll be looking at me. You know, I want to challenge him. Throws to my side, let me see if I can get my hands on it and maybe get a money sign.”

Everett said he is looking forward to catching up with Manziel after the game, but for now it’s all business. Everett was signed on Aug. 1 and is busy trying to make the team. He said he remembers picking off Manziel during practices, and won’t want cede any bragging rights to him.

“It’s always good to compete against another Aggie,” Everett said. “Someone from your school, you know, you go out there and, it’s like, it’s competition but it’s still brotherly love at the end of the day. You know, I’m going to go out there and I’m going to compete every time I’m on the field. If Johnny’s at quarterback then you know I want to get an interception. And hey, it’s Johnny, he’s my old teammate, I don’t want to let him throw a good completion.”
