Businessman Donald Trump is pushing back against the notion he might eventually consider pledging not to mount a third-party candidacy if he doesn’t secure the 2016 GOP presidential nomination — a commitment he also declined to make at last week’s Republican presidential debate.
“We’re going to keep the door open; we’re going to see what happens,” Mr. Trump said Tuesday on “Fox and Friends.”
He said he wants to run as a Republican and has big leads in recent polling.
“But I do want to keep that door open in case I don’t get treated fairly,” he said.
Mr. Trump’s appearance on Fox News follows heavy criticism he leveled at the network, as well as host Megyn Kelly, for Ms. Kelly’s line of questioning at last week’s debate.
He tweeted Monday that Fox News President Roger Ailes called him and assured him that the network would treat him fairly.
