President Barack Obama has congratulated the Duke men’s basketball team and UConn women’s basketball team on winning their respective NCAA championships.

The White House said Obama telephoned UConn coach Geno Auriemma on Wednesday. He placed a called to Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski on Tuesday.

Duke earned its fifth championship title by defeating Wisconsin, 68-63, on Monday night.

UConn earned its third consecutive title by defeating Notre Dame, 63-53, on Tuesday night. It was also the 10th championship for Auriemma.

Obama told both coaches that he looks forward to congratulating both teams in person at the White House — a custom over the years.
