Former Vice President Dick Cheney said Tuesday night President Obama actively is seeking to weaken America’s role in the world and will go down in history as “the worst president we’ve ever had.”

During an interview on the Hugh Hewitt Show, Mr. Cheney said the president fundamentally misunderstands America’s role in the world and is making a grave mistake in his approach to Iran, a leading state sponsor of terrorism.

“If you had somebody as president who wanted to take America down, who wanted to fundamentally weaken our position in the world and reduce our capacity to influence events, turn our back on our allies and encourage our adversaries, it would look exactly like what Barack Obama’s doing,” Mr. Cheney said. “I think his actions are constituted in my mind those of the worst president we’ve ever had.”

Mr. Cheney added that the Obama administration is leaving the next president a “terrible burden” by striking a nuclear deal with Iran — a deal Mr. Cheney believes ultimately will lead to Tehran acquiring nuclear weapons.

“Obama’s about to give them nuclear weapons. It’s — I can’t think of a more terrible burden to leave the next president than what Obama is creating here,” Mr. Cheney said.
