Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky declared in a fundraising e-mail Tuesday morning that, as expected, he’s officially announcing his candidacy for president later on in Louisville, writing that Washington, D.C., has been “turned into a land of make-believe.”
“This race is wide open, and polls show my campaign at or near the top of key early state primary contests!” Mr. Paul wrote. “Our Federal Government today has become an enormous monster with tentacles reaching into every aspect of our lives — from education to healthcare, and even our private emails and phone calls.”
“Washington, D.C., has been turned into the land of make-believe, filled with politicians who think budgets don’t have to balance and spending doesn’t have to be paid for,” the pitch continues.
“As president, I will lessen the debt and stop spending hard-earned tax payer dollars on frivolous pet projects and sending it to governments that burn our flag!” he wrote.
