On a recent trip to Arizona to try out the all-new, fully-redesigned, cooler than cool 2015 Ford Edge, I found a number of things to my liking on this midsize crossover including updated technology, easy handling and a handsome design.
The best way to describe it is a quiet, comfortable and calm ride for this new adaptation of an old Ford favorite. Both inside and out the 2015 Ford Edge offers better materials, increased safety and an all around better driving experience thanks to an updated entertainment system that makes the ride home worth the time spent behind the wheel.
This Ford edge has a Fusion sedan body, new suspension and the competition for the 2015 Ford Edge includes the Nissan Murano, Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Volkswagen Toureg.
Being offered in four trims, you can choose from the SE, SEL, Sport and a new offering Titanium.
On the SE, expect a rearview camera, dual bright exhaust tips, LED tail lamps, tilt/telescoping steering, front console with armrest and storage tray, day to night interior rearview mirror, power windows and door locks, push button start, leather shifter knob, bucket front seats, reclining 60/40 fold-flat seat with a center fold-down armrest, intermittent speed-sensitive front windshield wipers and 18” aluminum painted sparkle silver wheels.
On the SEL, you get more of the same with a 10-way power driver seat with power lumbar, reverse sensing system, leather wrapped steering wheel with cruise and audio controls, rear window defroster, heated power mirrors with security approach lamps and LED signal indicators, bright grilles, daytime running lamps and a rear spoiler.
On the Titanium, this trim includes all the SEL goodies and also LED tail lamps with a light bar, mirrors with memory, ambient lighting, a 10-way heated power driver seat, leather trimmed sport seats and a universal garage door opener.
On the Sport, you get all the SEL standards as well as active grille shutters, 20” polished wheels, ambient lighting, leather trimmed sport seats, 10-way heated power driver and passenger seat with memory, a perimeter alarm and front and rear lower fascias.
Under the hood on the 2015 Ford Edge, you get 245 horsepower with a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine on the base model or a 265-horsepower with a 3.5-liter V-6 engine, or for more power there is the 2.7-liter twin-turbo V-6 as an option. The 2015 Ford Edge comes with either front or all-wheel drive and is a six-speed automatic.
For safety on all the 2015 Ford Edge trims, you get an active glove box knee air bag, reversing camera and the Curve Control technology and for upgrades there is the blind-spot information system, lane-departure warning system, cross-traffic alert system, and an adaptive cruise control system with collision warning and brake support technologies. There are also options to include like inflatable rear seat belts and a 180-degree front camera with a washer system.
One standout on the new Edge that I really found usable is the front and rear park-assist sensors that now include side parking sensors that will help guide the driver into a perpendicular parking space. This is part of the Enhanced Active Park Assist system that will take the vehicle into a parallel parking space situation with the driver merely operating the foot pedals.
Inside the Ford Edge, the driving experience is all about comfort with the dials and knobs perfectly aligned for easy use and the storage spaces and seat configuration comfortable and easy. Take note too, the folks at Ford outfitted this rendition of the Edge with higher quality materials particularly inside where all five passengers can easily enjoy a comfortable ride.
The 2015 Edge is also longer and taller than in years past with more legroom for the driver and front passenger by about two inches and in the back there is an additional one inch to play with as well as an additional one inch more for headroom. For cargo space you get 39.2 cubic feet or if the rear seats are folded down its 73.4 cubic feet.
Indeed, this is a go-to Ford product that has a new modern look and feel inside and out and a dramatically easy and refined ride overall making driving enjoyable and easy just like you’d expect from Ford.
