Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida has signed Americans for Tax Reform’s Taxpayer Protection Pledge to oppose any efforts to raise taxes if elected president, the group said Tuesday.

Grover Norquist, president of ATR, pointed out that Mr. Rubio signed and kept the pledge as a state representative in Florida and in his capacity as a United States Senator.

“By signing the Taxpayer Protection Pledge to the American people, Senator Rubio continues to protect American taxpayers against higher taxes,” Mr. Norquist said.

Mr. Rubio’s only two major declared Republican rivals in the 2016 presidential election, Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas and Rand Paul of Kentucky, have also signed the pledge.

A spokeswoman for former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush has said that if Mr. Bush moves forward with a presidential campaign, he will not sign “any pledges circulated by lobbying groups” and that his record of not raising taxes is clear.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has not signed the pledge, either, but ATR officials have praised his stance on taxes.

Other potential 2016 GOP contenders, including Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin, Gov. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, former Texas Gov. Rick Perry and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee have all previously signed the pledge in some capacity.
