Former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton changed her Twitter and Facebook avatars Tuesday to a gay-friendly, rainbow-colored version of her H-arrow campaign logo, less than a year after saying the issue should be left up to individual states.
The avatar changes for Mrs. Clinton come on the same day the Supreme Court will hear arguments on whether the Constitution guarantees a right to same-sex marriage.
Mrs. Clinton, during an NPR interview in June, said, “For me, marriage has always been a matter left to the states.”
But, like President Obama just prior to his 2012 re-election, she said that her views have evolved.
In 2013, Mrs. Clinton told Human Rights Campaign she supports marriage for lesbian and gay couples “a matter of policy and law,” but added that her personal views “have been shaped over time,” The Washington Post reported.
