The Islamic State group will soon be seeing a lot more A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft overhead.
The Michigan Air National Guard announced that it will be deploying the 107th Fighter Squadron, the 127th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, the 127th Maintenance Squadron and the 127th Operations Support Squadron to support Operation Inherent Resolve.
Roughly 350 airmen in support of 12 aircraft will head to Southwest Asia for the U.S.-led coalition’s mission, Air Force Times reported Wednesday.
“Today, our Michigan Airmen are fully engaged in the fight. We could not be more proud of the work that they are already doing and the way they have answered their nation’s call,” Michigan Adjutant General Maj. Gen. Gregory Vadnais said in the release, the newspaper reported.
Aircraft from the 332nd Air Expeditionary Group were made available for the mission against Islamic State last November. The aircraft are part of the 163rd Expeditionary Fighter Squadron, a unit with the Indiana Air National Guard.
