With the Super Bowl champion New England Patriots at the White House, President Obama couldn’t resist poking fun at their notorious “deflate-gate” controversy.

Surrounded by the team and their families on the South Lawn, Mr. Obama said he usually tells jokes at such events, “but with the Patriots in town, I was worried 11 out of 12 would fall flat.”

The audience groaned.

Mr. Obama then commented, “That whole story was blown out of proportion.”

The NFL is still investigating the Patriots to determine why 11 of the 12 game balls they provided for the AFC championship game were under-inflated.
